Callie – 6 year old female Springer cross Patterdale Terrier

Callie is a 6 year old female Springer cross Patterdale Terrier. She is a friendly girl who would like a quiet but active home, somewhere where she will get lots of walks or maybe join her new owner jogging. She would like her owners to be around most of the time as she likes to be with you, perhaps with another dog for company and to play with. She loves to be able to sit or curl up next to you on the sofa, sometimes leaning into you and resting her head under your chin, she just wants a hug! Callie has met my grandsons and was happy to have a cuddle, I think she would be better with calmer older children 12+.

Callie loves getting in the car and travels well although she may whine for the first 10 minutes or so. She loves her walks, pulls on a lead/harness but walks beautifully on a Gencon. This is essential at the moment as she will try to chase cars when she is being walked on the pavements. I have started some reward based training for this and have found a Gencon clipped to a harness for added security to work well. Further training will be needed in her new home. In the garden and secure field her recall is good and I have started to let her off lead in reasonably secure areas. When out on walks, if she sees a squirrel or bird her attention is focused entirely on it so more training on recall will be needed. On walks Callie likes to say hello to all dogs and people if at all possible. Only once has she barked at another dog and that was when it was straining at the end of a lead and started barking at her first.

Callie will retrieve a ball and release it on return for a treat. I don’t know if she would share her toys with another dog or not as my own are not interested in them. I have left Callie in the company of my own dogs for 3 hours without any problem she was allowed the freedom of the house and was not destructive. She does like to take the post out of the letter box but will release it immediately when asked to do so. Callie has previously had very sore skin, this has been resolved and she is not on any medication. Her new owners will need to keep an eye on her to make sure there is no re-occurrence.

Callie is currently on a raw diet which suits her well and she loves it. She is fed twice daily and away from my own dogs as she growled at one of them initially, this has improved and she is now fed in the same room albeit several feet away. This was just around her food bowl as she takes treats nicely around other dogs and awaits her turn calmly. There haven’t been any issues with her food bowl and myself. Callie sleeps on her own bed in my room at night as this is where my own dogs sleep.

Callie is not neutered due to the timing of her seasons and will be rehomed with a contract to do so and not with entire males. She is chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption is subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption fee. Applications via forms section of website please.
