Lenny is a 4 month old male Cross-Breed. Lovely Lenny is being fostered in Cirencester in family home. This lovely boy has just joined the Starfish family after a long journey from Spain. He has had a sad past after being dumped on the streets with his siblings and left to die, they were found living around some bins.
They were extremely nervous and scared when they first came into rescue in Spain with Aunty Violet – but both boys were lucky enough to get a foster home in Spain which has helped in their rehabilitation. Now in a family foster home and separated from his brother we think this will help him progress as both boys although bonded were feeding off each other as both so nervous- he now has two confident foster dogs to live with. Playing with his foster brother much happier and confident around dogs rather than people at the moment.
When he first arrived, I think terrified was the right words to use but slowly every day like his brother he makes baby steps, again like his brother he is very bonded to the other dogs more than the people he has now actually started playing with them and toys. He is slowly getting to trust his foster mum and meeting new people but it’s on his terms but baby steps like we say.
He really is going to need other dogs and a very experienced home; he is not suitable for busy family life. If you have worked with puppy farm dogs this would help as he has obviously missed out on the early socialisation – but his foster family is working very hard with him and introducing him to different things every day getting him and about.
When I met him the other night, I introduced him to a cup of tea bless him, although cautious with me as long as I did not over power him he was very relaxed around me.
He is nervous around the children so really needs an adult home at this stage. His house training has gone really well. He has not been left yet and not keen on a crate – he sleeps at night in a bed beside his foster mummy bed. It really needs the right home for this little lad, he is still young so we have a chance if we get the right placement for him to move on with his life and gain his confidence although he may always be nervous in new situations so people who are around a lot as he will need a lot of time and work – another gentle dog from him to learn from and play with.
Somebody to carry on the good work his foster mummy has put into him. A busy working home or a busy family home will not be right for him. He still has baby teeth although coming out so he is around 4 1/2 months old and we think will be Labrador size. He is too young to be neutered but is fully vaccinated, chipped and has his own Pet Passport.
