Balu is a 1-2 year old male Labrador Cross (shoulder height: 47 cm, weight: 17 kg). He was saved from a chain with another dog (Sofia) in rural Hungary and is now in a foster home, waiting for the right family to come around.
Balu is a smart, sweet natured and friendly dog. He loves attention and loves cuddles. He has a lovely character and he loves humans above all. He is very responsive to training and learns new skills and tricks every day. He is friendly with dogs, perhaps a bit cautious initially but he is sociable and playful and likes running around with his doggie mates in the park.
He still gets scared of loud or sudden noises. He needs a lot of reassurance on busy streets but he is getting more confident every day. He walks nicely on the lead in quiet areas. In busier streets he is more worried and pulls quite a lot. This will definitely get better over time as he has improved a lot already.
He is housetrained and lets you know when he needs to go outside. He still cries a little when left alone, but he is not destructive. He travels nicely and sits quietly on public transport.
Balu would be best suited for a family without or with children over 14 where he is not left alone for long hours and there’s time for his socialisation and training. We want him to be an integral part of the family as he loves his humans and is happiest to be around them all the time. He will definitely be a source of great joy for anyone who gives him a loving home. He could live with another dog as she is quite sociable, but he may as well be happy being the only dog in the household.
As all rescue dogs, he will need time, patience, love and commitment from his adopting family to become a happy, well balanced dog. Experience with rescue dogs is preferred. No first time owners please.
Balu is currently in Hungary and can travel to the UK as soon as the right family is found for him. He comes fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea and tick treated, with an EU passport and DEFRA approved paperwork.
