Sophie – 5 month old female Ibizan Hound (Podenco)

Sophie is a 5 month old female Ibizan Hound (Podenco). Lovely, sweet Sophie is tan-coloured, with a short smooth coat and when she is fully grown she will be a medium size dog around 15/18 kg. She is very smart, and extremely affectionate, she loves cuddles and attention.

Sophie is very friendly and playful with others dogs, she is learning to walk on lead and she responds very well to positive reinforcement training ( she loves little pieces of chicken boiled!) so her training is moving along very quickly.

Like all Podencos, Sophie is timid, but not so scared now, only timid, especially with men, which stems from how they are treated and used by hunters. She needs lots of exercise, and opportunities to play and she likes run like the wind!

Also, as a sight hound, she has a very high prey drive because of her hunting instinct, for this reason we say not suitable to cats or little furries, and very important keep on lead until you can be certain she has bonded with you and she has a rock- solid recall! The best would be training her inside areas completely fenced and safe, so a large garden would be prefect!

The Podenco breed in Spain is used for hunting rabbits, and when the hunting season finishes or if the dog isn’t good at hunting, they are abandoned. Poor Sophie was rescued in a field, very skinny, thirsty and frightened (see her photos). Luckily in a very short time she is completely recovered and she gained 3 kg! She is very healthy, has good behavior, and doesnt bark!

Sophie needs a calm environment, with another dog, and an owner who gives her time to trust and to learn, sometimes she is little bit stubborn, but funny with it! She requires patience and calm during training.

If you will devote her time and energy, Sophie will reward you with great loyalty, love, affection, she will be a wonderful family member.

Current location is in Spain can travel to the UK in June once homed.

Adoption Fee : £425 – to be paid direct to the Spanish rescue to cover new, excessive, extra EU travel costs, via UK bank account.
